Replika Review — free chat, romance needs Pro

Pros and cons

What is Replika?

Replika is a one-to-one companion app rather than a library of characters. Its privacy policy names the operator as Luka, Inc. in the United States. The official Pro explanation places Romantic Partner status and several voice features behind that subscription. A companion-first product can suit regular conversation without being the right comparison for an output-priced image generator. Prices appear only in the app; reported figures are about USD 19.99 a month or USD 69.99 a year for Pro (approx. RM81.96 or RM286.96). SpicyAI is not Replika and never sees your conversations with it. We may earn a commission if you sign up through the links on this page.

Why Replika’s ringgit price is only an estimate

Replika shows prices only inside the app, and they vary by region, so the ringgit figures here are reported USD prices converted at RM4.10, not necessarily what the app will display. We did not buy Pro from Malaysia. The interface we checked is English. This review is for adults 18+, and the companion pictured is fictional.

Is Replika free?

For conversation, yes: Replika chat is free around the clock, and the sources we used mention no message cap. The paid line runs through the relationship itself. Romantic Partner status needs Pro, as do several voice features, so a romantic relationship with your Replika is a paid feature.

Replika pricing in RM

Replika prices only inside the app, so these rows are reported USD figures converted at RM4.10 (Bank Negara Malaysia reference, October 2026), all approximate.

Yearly Pro, reported near RM286.96, is one charge for twelve months and works out at about RM23.91 a month. Ultra, reported near RM122.96 a month, is a higher tier above Pro.

Memory, voice and what Pro unlocks

Pro adds voice messages and background voice calls, the main audio upgrades over free chat. Replika does not publish a context size, and the sources we used do not describe a separate memory feature, so we cannot say how far back your companion recalls. We worked from Replika’s own documents, not long test conversations.

Filters and NSFW content

Replika moderates content, and paying does not switch that off: Pro unlocks Romantic Partner status and voice features, not unmoderated chat. Age is a live issue here, since Italy’s Garante cited the lack of effective age verification in its May 2025 decision. The app is for adults 18+, the companion is fictional, and content involving minors, non-consent, real people without consent or illegal material is prohibited.

Is there an app?

Yes. Replika’s official site lists iOS, Android and web access, and the app is where Pro is priced. The operator is Luka, Inc., so that is the developer name to look for in the store; an APK from anywhere else is not an official copy.

Refunds and the company behind it

Replika is run by Luka, Inc. of San Francisco. In May 2025 Italy’s data protection authority (Garante) fined Luka €5 million under the GDPR, citing the lack of a valid legal basis, an inadequate privacy notice and no effective age verification. Because Pro is priced in the app, check the refund terms of the channel you pay through; cancelling stops renewal but does not refund what you have paid. We did not complete a purchase and found no current independent rating.

Who should use Replika?

Replika suits you if you want one long-running companion on your phone rather than a library of characters. Free chat is available around the clock, but Romantic Partner status and most voice features need Pro, reported at approx. RM81.96 a month or RM286.96 a year and priced only in the app. Italy’s regulator fined its operator €5 million in May 2025, so review the privacy settings first.

Our score: 3.6 / 5 (provisional). Round-the-clock free chat and apps on every platform help; romance behind Pro, moderated content and the €5 million GDPR fine keep it off the main list.
